Indonesia’s Cigarette Culture Wars: Contesting Tobacco Regulations in the Postcolony

Abstract: This article juxtaposes representations of Indonesia’s tobacco control as temporally backwards with a counter-discourse defending its clove-laced cigarettes—called kretek—as a form of distinctive cultural heritage.
