Indium‐Bridged [1]Ferrocenophanes

Abstract: Indium-bridged [1]ferrocenophanes ([1]FCPs) and [1.1]ferrocenophanes ([1.1]FCPs) were synthesized from dilithioferrocene species and indium dichlorides. The reaction of Li2fc⋅tmeda (fc = (H4C5)2Fe) and (Mamx)InCl2 (Mamx = 6-(Me2NCH2)-2,4-tBu2C6H2) gave a mixture of the [1]FCP (Mamx)Infc (4(1)), the [1.1]FCP [(Mamx)Infc]2 (4(2)), and oligomers [(Mamx)Infc]n (4(n)). In a similar reaction, employing the enantiomerically pure, planar-chiral (Sp,Sp)-1,1'-dibromo-2,2'-diisopropylferrocene (1) as a precursor for the … Show more

“…Recently, we tackled both problems simultaneously through the introduction of isopropyl groups adjacent to the bridging element, which provide steric protection and act as solubilizing groups (B; Figure 1). [11,12] A particularly interesting family of strained sandwich compounds is that of boron-bridged [1]FCPs: they are the only known [1]FCPs bridged by a 2nd period element.…”

“…The new 1-amino-1′-bromoferrocenes 6a , b can be converted into their lithiated derivatives using 2.1 equiv of n BuLi in a 9/1 solvent mixture of hexanes and thf (Scheme ). We used this uncommon solvent mixture as it worked well for the preparation of chiral [1]FCPs before, when we prepared dilithioferrocene derivatives by lithium–bromine exchange reactions. ,,, Even though this mixture mainly consists of hexanes, the formed dilithio species were soluble. Investigations of the lithiation of 1-bromo-1′-(trimethylsilylamino)ferrocene ( 1 ; Scheme ) had shown that a stepwise process was needed to cleanly produce the targeted dilithio compound.…”

“…A broad variety of such polymers has been synthesized in laboratory. The bridge moiety can vary from group 13 (B, Al, Ga, In) [9][10][11][12] to group 14 (Si, Ge, Sn) [13][14][15][16][17] , group 15 (P, As) [18][19][20] , and group 16 elements (S, Se) 21,22 . The metallocene can cover almost the whole first-row transition metal series (Sc-Ni) and some second-and third-row transition metal species (Zr, Hf, Pt) [23][24][25][26][27] .…”
