“…The various types of celestite occurrences hosted by Tertiary evaporite deposits and molasse-type sediments of the Sivas Basin, in east-central Anatolia, Turkey, are located not far from the deposit under study in Cyprus and developed during the same period of time (Tekin et al, 2002b). Celestite mineralization occurs among other sediments in evaporitic series.…”

“…If any biological process leads to the formation of such phases, they should dissolve when put in the conditions of open ocean waters. So, this undersaturation of ocean waters with respect to solid solutions of intermediate compositions provides another reason for the rare occurrence of such (Ba,Sr)SO 4 in the ocean minerals (Tekin et al, 2002), in addition to the strong Ba/ Sr fractionation induced by the large celestine to barite solubility product ratio (see Section 2). We have calculated the variation of the saturation index and of the barium content of the solid solution, with the A 0 parameter of the solid solution.…”

“…Compositional bands in Flybye barite alternate rhythmically along crystal growth axes and do not show the systematic increases or decreases in atomic weight typical of closed system and diagenetic barite (Hannington & Scott, 1988; Hanor, 2000; Tekin et al. , 2002).…”
