Introduction Cervical spine is closely approximated with neurovascular structures. Therefore, misalignment of cervical spine so commonly seen today may lead to altered blood pressure (BP). There could be a relationship between head neck posture as measured by craniovertebral angle and peripheral arterial BP. Aim The aim of this study is to compare peripheral arterial BP in individuals with and without forward head posture (FHP). Study Design This is a comparative, prospective, observational study in healthy population. Subjects and Methods A total of 150 students were selected randomly and screened so that there were equal and desired number of subjects in the two groups (64 in each group) for this comparative, prospective, observational study. Three readings of BP were taken in sitting position on brachial artery at interval of 2 to 3 minutes. One standard image was taken in lateral view used for measuring craniovertebral angle with “MB ruler software.” Craniovertebral angle, systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of the two groups were compared. Results The aim of the study was to compare peripheral arterial BP in individuals with and without FHP. The mean SBP and DBP of both the groups were within the normal range as was expected because the subjects were young students with no clinical symptoms. However, it was seen that the mean SBP was significantly higher in subjects with FHP than in subjects without FHP (p = 0.0009). Conclusion Peripheral arterial BP in individuals with FHP is statistically significantly higher than in individuals without FHP.

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui potensi dzikir dalam menurunkan tingkat stres dan juga untuk mengetahui hubungan antara tekanan darah dan detak jantung terhadap tingkat kesetresan mahasiswa fisika. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 3 mahasiswa, yang ditentukan menggunakan simple random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengukur tekanan darah pre-test dan post-test dengan pengulangan masing-masing sebanyak 3 kali pengulangan. Diperoleh hasil untuk pengukuran tekanan darah akibat pengaruh dzikir menunjukkan angka penurunan meskipun terdapat angka kenaikan tetapi masih dalam rentang normal. Untuk jumlah detak jantung yang terukur cenderung mengalami penurunan pada mahasiswa ke-1, ke-2 dan ke-3 secara berurutan sebesar 2,67/menit, 4,33/menit dan 0,33/menit, sehingga hal ini mengindikasikan adanya potensi dzikir yang mampu menurunkan tingkat stres. Dan hasil uji Paired sample T-test berpasangan didapatkan nilai signifikan (P>0.05). PENDAHULUANPadatnya kegiatan akademik dan non akademik mengakibatkan mahasiswa rentan terkena dampak stres (Legiran et al., 2015). Terdapat empat faktor penyebab stres pada mahasiswa, yaitu faktor akademik, faktor lingkungan, faktor emosi, dan faktor sosial (Navas, 2012). Tuntutan akademik, penilaian sosial, manajemen waktu serta biaya perkuliahan dapat memicu keadaan stres pada mahasiswa (Susane L, 2017). Stres akademik yang terjadi pada siswa adalah hasil persepsi subjektif terhadap ketidaksesuaian/ketidakcocokan antara harapan lingkungan dengan kemampuan yang dimiliki siswa (Gusniarti, 2002).Stres belajar juga dapat diartikan sebagai beban mental yang dialami oleh siswa/mahasiswa karena faktor-faktor penyebab tertentu yang berhubungan dengan proses kegiatan di lingkungan belajar. Stres dibidang akademik pada anak juga bisa muncul saat harapan untuk menpencapai prestasi akademik meningkat, baik dari orang tua, guru atau pun teman sebaya, tetapi harapan tersebut tidak sesuai dengan kemampuannya (Shahmohammadi, 2011). Kondisi stres yang terjadi pada mahasiswa dapat berakibat negatif seperti, terjadi penurunan produktifitas, sulit berkonsentrasi, penurunan kemampuan mengingat informasi, mempengaruhi pengambilan keputusan, dan terganggunya kesehatan seperti gagal jantung, tekanan darah tinggi, pusing, dan mual (Wahyuni, 2017). Background: There are many studies that have evaluated peripheral artery disease (PAD) using ankle brachial index. However, there is very little epidemiological data on angiographically diagnosed PAD and its association with definite coronary artery disease (CAD) in Indians. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between PAD and CAD in South Indian patients. Methods: This was an observational, descriptive, single-arm, single-centre, retrospective clinical study. The study included 111 patients with known PAD who were admitted to a tertiary care hospital in South India. Patients with PAD by history, clinical examination, and those who underwent peripheral as well as coronary angiography were included in the study. Student t test, chi-square/fisher exact test have been used to find the significance of study parameters.Results: Out of total 111 patients with PAD included in the study, 98 patients were male. 61.1% of patients had co-existing significant CAD and significant PAD. Diabetes was a strong predictor of CAD (p=0.003) and smoking was strongly related to PAD (p=0.028). Elderly patients were associated with occurrence of significant CAD as well as PAD. Conclusions: It can be concluded that there is a definite and significant correlation between PAD and CAD. The elderly population and those at increased risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease have higher liability of PAD; however, PAD is the condition that is mostly under diagnosed and under treated. The awareness about the co-existence of CAD and PAD, and implementation of co-diagnosis in general clinical practice has been poor.
