“…Qualitative research is appropriate for contexts where the goal is to interpret meaning from actions and experiences (Mason 2017). We conducted our research in the emerging market of India due to it being a high-growth, high-potential economy where it is one of the largest emerging markets (Das and Das 2014;Economist 2017). We chose the software industry due to it being knowledge-intensive, where knowledge is the core competency, suggesting a need for learning (Davis and Eisenhardt 2011).…”

“…Prior research calls for the need to extend knowledge on international entrepreneurship in emerging markets (Kiss et al 2012; Khan and Lew 2018). As such, it provides an important context to explore the preceding gaps and research questions.…”

“…A considerable amount of barriers to growth research is geographically focused on Eastern European transitional countries. Barriers to growth have been researched in the context of Lithuania (Aidis, 2005), Albania (Hashi, 2001;Xheneti & Bartlett, 2012), Kosovo (Hoxha & Capelleras, 2010), Slovenia (Bartlett & Bukvič, 2001), Russia (Doern, 2009), Bulgaria (Pissarides, Singer, & Svejnar, 2003), developing countries (Coad & Tamvada, 2012;Das & Das, 2014;Robson & Obeng, 2008), as well as specific contexts in developed countries (e.g., Lee & Cowling, 2013). However, the barriers to growth literature is fragmented and theoretically under-developed (Doern, 2009).…”

In the rising global economic scenario, India's small businesses (employee sizes of 1–10 and 10–49) are faced with constraints of various kinds including those related to financial and human resources, and as a result their performance was worse during 2006–2010 than during 2000–2005 (Das and Das ).…”
