The purpose of this paper is to present the relevance of the three-step approach undertaken by a marketing academic working in the University of New England Business School to foster distance student's learning, satisfaction and overall study experience. This work is a reflection of the author's teaching practice whereby a multitude of innovative teaching resources, relevant assignments and effective feedback system were integrated to develop work-ready assessment tools that are required for today's graduates to be readily employable. Evidence gathered from teaching and unit evaluation data obtained from the years 2011 to 2014 indicated that this three-step approach fostered students' independent learning by transforming them from being passive surface learners to deep and active learners. Similarly, the overall satisfaction rate of students with the units (subject) coordinated by the author, the pass rates and grade point averages as well as the number of distinctions and high distinctions secured by students enrolled in those marketing related units indicate the acquisition of authentic cognitive skills. The evidence gathered from teaching practice indicates the relevance of integrating work-ready assessment tools with worthwhile feedback and innovative teaching resources to enhance distance students' overall study experience.

Impact of Environmental Investments and Air Protection Costs on the Sustainable Development of Coal Mining Regions

The transition to sustainable development of mining regions depends on the size and effectiveness of environmental investments. This study examines the impact of investments and current costs of air protection on the amount of air emissions from stationary sources. We used data on investments in atmospheric air protection, current costs of air protection, and amounts of air emission in 12 mining regions of Russia. The impact of investment and emission costs was simulated using standard pairwise regression equations and the Almon distributed lag model. The statistical insignificance of the models has been established, both in terms of the form of coupling equation and the significance of most coefficients with explanatory variables. The distributed lag model using data on investments in air protection over five years is also statistically insignificant. The paper also discusses the impact of investments and current costs on the specific emission amount per 1 ruble of the gross regional product. The model of pairwise linear regression and other possible forms of the coupling equation in this case are statistically insignificant. The study found that investments and current costs do not affect emissions from stationary sources. This suggests a lack of investments in the air protection and a low efficiency of their use.

This study aimed to test the effectiveness of the deep learning approach in improving self-control internet usage of teenagers. This research was included in pre- experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design research. The research was conducted in SMP IT Masjid Syuhada Yogyakarta and the subjects were 20 students who lacked self-control. The data were obtained from the result of the scale used to measure the self control of internet usage. The instrument validity was determined by expert judgment. The instrument reliability was determined by Alpha Cronbach's results. The data analysis technique used t-test. The results of data analysis showed a significant change in 20 students of SMP IT Masjid Syuhada. The result of pre-test was 142.1, and the post-test was 159.6. The t-test was 9.447. There is a difference if p sig <0.05 and t arithmetic> t table (N 20 = 2.093). Thus, deep learning approach effectively improved self control when students of SMP IT Masjid Syuhada Yogyakarta used internet.
