Increasing User Experience and Trust in Automated Vehicles via an Ambient Light Display

Abstract: Figure 1: Our fixed-base driving simulator with a running video and the simulated light display at the bottom of the screens. In this condition, the car highlights its intended trajectory as a grey area and a detected conflict as a red cue. In this snapshot, the car has to brake because of a pedestrian in front and indicates this by lighting up the entire display in red.
