Increasing the yield of drip-irrigated rice by improving photosynthetic performance and enhancing nitrogen metabolism through optimizing water and nitrogen management

Abstract: Drip irrigation under plastic film mulching is an important technique to achieve water-conserving and high-efficiency rice (Oryza sativa L.) production in arid areas, but the grain yield of drip-irrigated rice is much lower than the expected yield (10.9-12.05 t·hm-2) in practical production applications. Therefore, we hope to further understand the photosynthetic physiological mechanism of drip-irrigated rice yield formation by optimizing water and nitrogen management during the growth period and provide a sci… Show more

“…Improving the soil water and nutrient environment is beneficial for increasing leaf chlorophyll content and stomatal conductance [37,38]. In 2020, the Pn and Tr of apples and maize increased in every treatment by 5.9%-157.1% compared with I 0 F 0 , except for apple Tr in the I 0 F 1 treatment (Figure 6).…”

“…Under film mulching with traditional border irrigation, some nitrogen fertilizer could be blocked to the outer surface of the film, reducing fertilization efficiency due to the presence of plastic film (Table 1) [47]. With the development of drip irrigation technology under film, irrigation water and fertilizer can be directly transported to the soil through drip irrigation systems, reducing the ineffective loss of nitrogen and effectively utilizing fertilizers (Table 1) [48], which solves the problem of low fertilization efficiency under film mulching with border irrigation.…”
