Increased Sugar Consumption in Crohn’s Disease

Abstract: 120 patients with Crohn’s disease, 100 with ulcerative colitis and controls matched for age and sex were interviewed by questionnaire. Questions related to current and past sugar and milk intake and consumption of some breakfast cereals. Patients with Crohn’s disease ate significantly more sugar than either controls or patients with ulcerative colitis at the time of interview. Their use of sugar had changed little since the onset of symptoms.
