“…However, a few other studies with smaller sample sizes have demonstrated elevated serum HO-1 levels in preeclampsia. [25][26][27] Although HO-1 levels were not altered in preeclampsia in the present study, we found a modest positive correlation between the III trimester HO-1 concentration and the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio, which is higher in preeclampsia already before the onset of the disease. 2,40 HO-1 levels also modestly correlated with sEng levels in the I trimester.…”

“…Our sample size for measuring serum HO-1 in preeclampsia case-control sample is larger than in any of the previously published studies. [25][26][27] Further strengths of the study include the availability of maternal and neonate DNA, placental and I and III trimester serum samples as well as extensive clinical information. The diagnosis of preeclampsia and all subtypes were ascertained based on medical records and verified independently by a research nurse and a study physician.…”

“…13 However, another study said that the average level of Hmox-1 in preeclampsia was higher than normal pregnancy group. 14,15 Table 2 showed the result of average ferritin level between normal and preeclampsia group: It pointed out that the average ferritin level in preeclampsia group was higher (43 (SD 45.2) ng/ml) compared with normal pregnancy group (32.9 (SD 56.0) ng/ml). It was different significantly (p=0.028).…”

“…Some studies showed decreased HO-1 protein concentrations in placentas or serum from patients with PE [7,10,12,21]. Conversely, several reports demonstrated that HO-1 expression is increased in females presenting with PE [9,22,23]. …”
