“…In the present study and others, a significantly lower pH in CSU skin than in AD and NC skin was observed 8 . Meanwhile, the photoisomerisation of trans- to cis- UCA has been shown to be more efficient at a lower skin pH (3 to 5.5) than at a higher skin pH 21 , explaining the increased cis- to- trans- UCA ratio in CSU skin.…”

“…In a recent study conducted in 16 Korean patients with CSU/CIU, an increased expression of the gene that codifies the filaggrin was observed (by qPCR and immunohistochemistry). Additionally, a potential relationship between filaggrin gene expression and urticaria activity was detected . The authors found an increased amount of cis‐urocanic acid (filaggrin metabolite) in the CSU epidermis and speculate about its pathogenic potential role.…”

“…Another interesting function of IL‐31 is its involvement in filaggrin expression . Atopic dermatitis is mostly characterized by filaggrin deficiency, whereas in chronic urticaria, filaggrin expression has been reported to be enhanced . As IL‐31 serum levels are higher in atopic dermatitis compared to CsU , it may be possible that regulation of filaggrin expression is dependent on IL‐31 serum levels.…”
