“…Several lines of evidence have demonstrated that salt stress and drought affect the width of Casparian strips and induce suberification of the endodermis in many plants species, suggesting a strategy to block the entry of toxic elements into the root vasculature and to prevent water and oxygen loss [51,52]. Indeed, our results indicate an increase in the thickness of the cell wall endodermis that match those reported in Gossypium hirsutum [53], Oriza sativa [54] and the facultative halophyte Aeluropus littoralis [55] under salinity conditions. Also, they match the findings of Vasellati et al [50] who reported the formation of a conspicuous endodermis in Paspalum dilatatum under drought stress.…”

“…So, it can be concluded that the CCCH genes contain ABRE or DRE as the drought stress-responsive genes in their promoter sequences [30]. The zinc finger protein encoding transcription factors was previously reported as stress-inducible genes by Zouari et al [12].…”

“…Aeluropus littoralis is a halophytic plant of Poaceae family. It is a monocotyledonous halophyte which usually grows in the regions with intermediate to high salinity [11, 12]. A. littoralis can tolerate up to 600 mM NaCl [13] or 800 mM NaCl [11].…”

“…Downregulation of CCoAOMT gene was predicted to increase wood density in Populus trichocarpa by affecting lignin biosynthesis (Wang J. P. et al, 2018). Enhanced cell wall lignification in root cells is considered to be the salt tolerance feature in halophytes (Barzegargolchini et al, 2017). In addition, root aerenchyma structures that were formed in P. nuttalliana in response to NaCl may have an important role in improving root aeration under stress.…”
