Increase in the expression of thyroid hormone receptors in porcine granulosa cells early in follicular maturation

Abstract: Thyroid hormone has been demonstrated to synergize with FSH to exert stimulatory effects on the differentiation of porcine granulosa cells. In order to further characterize the nature of thyroid hormone action on granulosa cells, the presence of triiodothyronine (T3) receptors in the nuclei of porcine granulosa cells was examined, and qualitatively and quantitatively compared during follicular maturation. Then, comparative abilities of granulosa cells from varying follicle stages to respond to T3 were assessed… Show more

“…Progesterone production by granulosa cells is regulated by a number of growth factors such as thyroid hormone (23,24), insulin, insulin-like growth factor-I (25) and epidermal growth factor (26,27). Thus, further studies on the interaction of AM with growth factors will be necessary for a better understanding of the biological relevance of AM in the regulation of human granulosa lutein cell function.…”

“…yroid hormone receptors and/or their messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) have been detected in porcine (Maruo et al, 1992) and human (Wakim et al, 1993(Wakim et al, , 1994Zhang et al, 1997) granulosa cells from preovulatory antral follicles. Furthermore, T 3 and T 4 directly alter ovarian granulosa cell steroidogenesis in pigs and humans.…”

“…A definição se a ação desses hormônios sobre o ovário é direta ou indireta ainda não foi obtida. Postula-se que a redução ou o aumento da secreção tireoidiana atue indiretamente sobre o ovário, alterando sua responsividade às gonadotropinas (Maruo et al, 1992b). No entanto, a presença de receptores para triiodotironina nas células da granulosa sugere também uma ação direta (Wakim et al, 1993;Wakim et al, 1994).…”
