This study compares Korean, Indonesian, and US tsunami awareness, the ultimate goal being to reduce human loss, economic damage, and psychological impact resulting from tsunamis. Using the comparative perspective, the study examines the start of Korean awareness of tsunamis, tsunami awareness in Indonesia, and US tsunami awareness with mitigation. Three components are examined: government policy, researchers' efforts, and residents' readiness. The value of this study lies in its initial and systematic comparison of these three nations' approach towards tsunami awareness. It recommends that each nation learn from the major phases of other types of awareness to achieve its ultimate goal.
