“…It has been reported that in the early phase of Listeria infection, an increased level of M-CSF in the sera of Listeria sp.-resistant mice (C57BL/10) but not in those of Listeria sp.-sensitive mice (BALB/cJ) was observed, and this supports a close relationship between M-CSF levels and host antimicrobial activity (3). Some investigators have reported that repeated injections of M-CSF, L-cell-derived M-CSF, and normal human urinary CSF could increase the number of myeloid progenitor cells in the femoral marrow and spleens of mice (11)(12)(13)20). These findings support the concept that M-CSF plays an important role in the recruitment of macrophages, which may have some important antibacterial effect against Listeria-like intracellular bacteria.…”
