“…A strength of this study is the completeness of the registrations of national data in the CRN [6]. Also, in spite of the low concordance in staging, a high proportion of the patients has been given treatment with curative intention [6], and the 5 year relative survival for all diagnosed with lung cancer is high and has increased from 9.4% in 2001 [10] to 25.9% in 2019 [5] and 27.2% in 2020 [6].…”

“…Screening with low dose computed tomography (LDCT) has proven to be beneficial in reducing the mortality related to lung cancer, which is mainly based on early detection of cancer and timely initiation of treatment ( 17 ). Third, the treatment of lung cancer has improved and 20–30% of patients are eligible for curing with surgery ( 18 ). In addition to surgery, other therapies have also been developed for patients with primary or metastatic lung cancer recently, including radiation therapy, thoracoscopic segmentectomy and thermal ablation therapy.…”

“…This increase is also the most possible explanation for the slight reduction observed in the proportion of colorectal cancers receiving surgery, since patients with pRT and surgery were grouped as radiotherapy. For lung cancer there was a rapid increase in the proportion of patients receiving curative treatment (surgery, stereotactic radiotherapy and curatively fractionated radiotherapy) after 2010 23 . Despite this increase in the proportion of curatively treated patients, the waiting time for radiotherapy was reduced by over two weeks.…”
