Incorporation of³²P and⁴⁵Ca into milk and casein micelles of a buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) following intramuscular injection

Abstract

During lactation, large quantities of Ca and P are absorbed from the blood and are secreted into milk by the mammary secretory cells. Apart from some preliminary reports (Abd-Elwahab & Raafat, 1961; Raafat & Abd-Elwahab, 1961; Ahuja & Jassal, 1979, Bhushan et al. 1982), little work appears to have been done on their secretion into buffalo milk, especially in association with milk proteins which determine the quality of milk products such as cheese during their manufacture. The present study was, therefore, carried out to study the rate of secretion of 32 P and 45 Ca from blood into milk and their incorporation into the casein micelles of buffalo milk.
