Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis: An Insidious and Painful Condition

Abstract: Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) is a common and under-recognized painful skin condition, caused by erosion of the skin from chronic exposure to urine, stool, or both, from incontinence [1]. Patients with IAD experience considerable discomfort, with pain, burning and itching in the affected areas (buttocks, perineum and gluteal clefts) [1][2][3].
