Inclusive photoproduction of η mesons on nuclei and the in-medium properties of theS11resonance

Abstract: A relativistic non-local model for the inclusive photoproduction of η mesons from complex nuclei is introduced. The model is based on the dominance of the S 11 (1535) resonance. We compare the results of our calculations with the available data on inclusive cross sections for the nuclei C, Al and Cu. Assuming the resonance propagates freely in the nuclear medium, we find that the calculated angular distribution and energy dependence of the cross sections reproduce the data in a reasonable fashion. The present … Show more

“…Therefore, the η meson production in the nuclear reaction is considered as a potential tool to investigate the dynamics of N(1535) in the nucleus. Of course, this reaction can also be used to study the η meson nucleus interaction in the final state [11,12]. The η meson can be produced through the hadronic interaction by scattering off the pion or proton on the proton or nuclear target.…”

“…Specifically, the η meson strongly couples only to N * (1535), a I(J P ) = 1 2 ( 1 2 + ) nucleonic resonance. Therefore, the η meson production in the nuclear reaction is a potential tool to investigate the propagation of the N * (1535) resonance in the nucleus, in addition to the study of the η meson nucleus interaction in the final state [12,13].…”
