Inclusion Complex of Spironaphthoxazine with γ-Cyclodextrin and Its Photochromism Study

Abstract: An environmentally benign transparent photochromic film, 1,3-dihydro-1,3,3-trimethylspiro[2H-indole-2,3'-[3H]-naphtho[2,1-b][1,4]oxazine] (SPO) /gamma-cyclodextrin (gamma-CD), was prepared using the cast-coating method, and the nanocavity effect of gamma-CD on the photochromism of SPO was studied. The film mainly consists of the inclusion complex SPO@gamma-CD, which has been verified by EA, TGA, XRD, MS, and ICD to comprise a 1:1 host-guest stoichiometry. The film shows normal photochromism. The decoloration o… Show more

“…10−14 According to Zhang et al, SP-CD complexes made via the precipitation method used in this study have 1:1 guest:host stoichiometries. 12 This procedure relies on the hydrophobic SP being attracted into the hydrophobic CD cavity when added to ethanol:water solution. SP has suitable dimensions (W × L ≈ 6.5 × 13 Å) for favorable noncovalent bonding interactions with the CD cavity (ϕ × L ≈ 7.5−8.3 × 7.9 Å), 11 although some portion of the SP molecule will protrude from the cavity.…”

“…Solutions (250 L, 2 M) of DR1 and SP in ethanol were injected separately into 5 mL of aqueous -CDP ( 2 mol -CD/L) solution at 30 ∘ C with sonication for 10 min [45,46]. Aer 24 h of stirring, the DR1/ -CDP and SP/ -CDP inclusion complexes were deposited separately by spin coating onto ITO (indium tin oxide) glass plates and dried at 40 ∘ C in vacuo overnight for Ultraviolet/Visible (UV/VIS, Hitachi U-3900) analysis.…”
