Incidentally diagnosed right-sided intrathoracic kidney

Abstract: SummaryEctopic kidney is a well-known congenital anomaly. Intrathoracic kidney, as a form of renal ectopia, is an extremely rare entity. A 62-year-old man presented to the department of radiodiagnosis for evaluation of urinary problems. On the basis of ultrasonography, he was diagnosed to be having intrathoracic kidney, which was confirmed by CT scan. We present the details of the patient and brief review of the relevant literature. “…Chest X-ray shows intrathoracic kidney as a homogeneous opacity. 3,8 Computed tomography (CT) demonstrates it within thorax and an IVP can confirm the certain diagnosis. 3,8 Our case is consistent with literature for gender and side preponderance as it is in a male and left sided.…”

“…3,8 Computed tomography (CT) demonstrates it within thorax and an IVP can confirm the certain diagnosis. 3,8 Our case is consistent with literature for gender and side preponderance as it is in a male and left sided. It is diagnosed relatively at a later age accorging to literature, because it has been asymptomatic until now.…”

“…There are occasional reports of association with nonspecific chest, abdominal, and flank pain (Oon et al 2005;Fadaii et al 2008;Subramanian and Goldfarb 2008;Ahmed et al 2011), urinary stones, or renal carcinoma (Kubricht et al 1999;Lenz et al 2003). Spontaneous intracranial hypotension presenting as aggravated headache after sitting and standing was the presenting sign in a young adult with intrathoracic kidney; a focal paraspinal area of increased uptake first supposed to be a site of CSF leakage was then identified by radionuclide cisternography as an intrathoracic renal ectopia (Chiu et al 2012;Pandey et al 2012). Left thoracic kidney associated with left Bochdalek hernia has been reported in late adulthood (Karaoglanoglu et al 2006;Fiaschetti et al 2010).…”

“…El REI se ha relacionado con otras alteraciones urinarias (3). Suele haber sospecha de REI en niños con dificultad respiratoria (4-6) o en adultos con sintomatología urinaria (7), en los que las ayudas diagnósticas muestran una imagen sugestiva de una masa intratorácica. El tratamiento depende de la edad en que se hace el diagnóstico en el niño o en el adulto, y puede ir desde observación (8) o extirpación del riñón ectópico (2).…”
