Incidental Finding of Subacute Hematoma on PET/CT Following Cardiac Catheterization

Abstract

A 55-year-old male with known gastroesophageal junction carcinoma presented for staging PET/CT examination. In addition to increased activity in the region of the known malignancy, a mass was found extending along the right psoas muscle from the level of the lower pole of the kidney to the inguinal ligament and into the soft tissues of the groin. This mass demonstrated increased activity at its periphery and had not been present on a CT scan done only 20 days prior. Further history revealed that the patient had undergone a difficult cardiac catheterization 10 days prior. Subacute hematoma was diagnosed.
