“…A medically unnecessary appendectomy was defined as an appendectomy performed for any condition for which it would not typically be the indicated treatment. Incidental findings, such as fibrous obliteration of the lumen or fibrous strands, were commonly seen in asymptomatic patients [27] and were considered in the spectrum of normal [3,27]. Final assignment of cases as negative medically unnecessary appendectomies was achieved by consensus of both reviewers.…”

“…In the same study, the authors reported that more appendix tumors were diagnosed histopathologically for rectal cancers than right hemicolectomy surgeries 13 and it was considered that separate appendectomy specimens were examined more carefully than appendix in a right hemicolectomy specimen. Albright et al 14 defined a lifetime appendectomy risk of 6-7%. They considered that additional appendectomies for colorectal malignancies were cost effective because additional appendectomy would not prolong operative time and future appendectomies would be more difficult because of previous abdominal operations.…”

Literaturde kolorektal kanser hastalarında apendiks tümörü insidansını bildiren randomize kontrollü prospektif bir çalışma bulunmamaktadır.…”
