Incidence rate of mycosis fungoides in Isfahan (Iran)

Abstract: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is an extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with primary involvement of the skin. The aim of the present study was to determine the incidence rate of MF in Isfahan (Iran) and to compare the results with other reports. We collected our data from the MF clinic of Alzahra Hospital which is the main center for treatment of MF patients in Isfahan (2007-2008). Eleven cases were reported to the MF clinic of Alzahra during the study, seven of which were diagnosed as MF. The incidence rate of MF in I… Show more

“…Male to Female ratio was about 1.00 -1.4:1 in studies performed in some cities of Iran (Mashhad, Tabriz and Tehran) [21][22][23]. In present study this ratio is 1:1.57 that is similar to our previous study on incidence rate of MF in Isfahan with male: Female ratio of 3:4 (1:1.33) [24]. These ratios are completely in contrast to other studies.…”

“…Furthermore, MF incidence rate has increased significantly since 1973. 13,14 Interestingly, we found an incidence rate of 0.799/100 000 person-years for MF among patients of the mean age 43.3 AE 9.8 (36-76 years) who had short-term exposure to SM 20 years ago. The results proposed that the age at the time of the disease diagnosis was lower in those exposed to SM in comparison to the reports from Iranian populations.…”
