Incidence of Infection among Subjects with Helicobacter pylori Seroconversion

Abstract: Background/Aims: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) seroconversion may occur during screening for gastric cancer. Our study aimed to assess the number of seroconverted subjects with H. pylori and their results in follow-up tests. Methods: Data were consecutively collected on subjects who were H. pylori-seronegative and presented for gastric cancer screening. Subjects who were followed up using the same serology test and pepsinogen (PG) assays on the day of endoscopy were included in the study. Results: During the f… Show more

“…Considering the above evidence, previous studies compared recurrence according to the updated Sydney system based on H. pylori colony density, neutrophil infiltration, and monocyte infiltration in gastric mucosal tissue samples. However, no statistical difference was found 23,24 . The unique finding in our study was that the phenomenon of reinfection was evident in patients with non‐ulcer dyspepsia.…”

“…However, no statistical difference was found. 23,24 The unique finding in our study was that the phenomenon of reinfection was evident in patients with non-ulcer dyspepsia. It is expected that patients with peptic disease underwent frequent endoscopy and H. pylori testing as part of their follow-up even if H. pylori infection is not suspected on endoscopy.…”

“…10 In the present series, the male-to-female ratio was 2:3, and the average age was 63 years. Although two of the patients were suspected of having had a prior H. pylori infection based on the endoscopic findings, such as the presence of atrophy in the gastric antrum, 11 none of them had a current infection.…”
