This has been reviewed by Saha and Banerjee [1973], Relatively fewer studies have been carried out on the distri bution of glucose-6-phosphates dehydrogen ase deficiency (G6PD) by the dyc-decolourization test [Chatterjea, 1966;Baxi et al, 1969;Saha and Banerjee, 1971a;Hakim et al, 1972], Only four previous studies have been reported among the tribal and caste groups of South India on the phenotypic distribution of G6PD [Saha et al, 1974[Saha et al, , 1976Goud and Rao, 1975;Veeraju et al, 1978]. The present study reports the results of a study which was undertaken among the different endogamous caste groups and muslims of Bengal, to examine the pheno typic distribution of haemoglobin and G6PD of red blood cells.…”
