“…Therefore, this work has confirmed the presence of WMV and PRSV‐W in Cyprus by using more reliable and specific methods. Similar results concerning the prevalence and distribution of CMV, ZYMV and CABYV have also been reported in a recent survey in Lebanon, indicating that ZYMV and CABYV were the most common viruses in zucchini (64% and 65%, respectively) and melon (44% and 30%, respectively) whereas CMV was rather rare (Abou‐Jawdanh et al., 2000). In Greece, the incidence was reported to be slightly different and the main cucurbit viruses were WMV (67%), ZYMV (27%), CMV (20%), CABYV (20%), PRSV‐W (3%) and SqMV (2%) (Papavassiliou et al., 2002).…”

“…This important percentage reflected the high incidence of CABYV in the fields (Table 1), and demonstrated the prevalence of CABYV in squash-growing fields of Egypt. Such a high incidence of CABYV was reported also in other countries like Lebanon, Spain, Tunisia and China (Abou-Jawdah et al 2000;Kassem et al 2007;Mnari-Hattab et al 2009;Shang et al 2009). In accord with our observations, all these regions had an abundance of aphids in open fields.…”

“…[12] reported major economic loss due to cucurbit viral diseases in Lebanon. A survey conducted revealed the presence of Zucchini yellow mosaic Potyvirus (ZYMV) and Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows Polerovirus (CABYV) are the most common viruses followed by Watermelon mosaic Potyvirus (WMV), Papaya ringspot Potyvirus-watermelon strain (PRSV-W) and to a lesser extent Cucumber mosaic Cucumovirus (CMV).…”
