Incentives and policies for integrated pest management in Europe: a review

Abstract: Integrated pest management and organic farming are alternatives for sustainable agriculture and less pesticide use in the European Union. All professional users of pesticides in the European Union should follow the general principles of integrated pest management from 2014. States should report to the European Commission on their national action plan for the effective application of those general principles through crop-specific guidelines. The major remaining issues are: (1) when guidelines are not already ap… Show more

“…In Taiwan, intensive production has long been the typical agricultural operation mode. Pest and disease attacks constitute one of the biggest sources of risk in agriculture [31]. Thus, we consider conventional farming and organic farming as the levels that represent the attributes of the agricultural farming type for the land use program in the forest park.…”

“…The overview of EU legislation highlights the great effort made to withdraw poisonous active ingredients from the European market (Lefebvre et al, 2014). Of great interest is the recent approach of the EU, which, as underlined by Lamichhane et al (2016, p. 148), "creates an opportunity to build a common IPM framework in agriculture, based on sustainable crop protection approaches that are flexibly adapted for cropping systems, changing pest pressures, changing climatic conditions and regional agronomic practices".…”
