“…It is emphasised in the literature that as swinging stimulates endorphin secretion through “repetitive and rhythmic” movements, it is beneficial in relieving pain in babies and helpful in putting them to sleep through stimulating the vestibular system (Yilmaz & Arikan, ). In the studies of Ourth and Brown () and Gordon and Foss () comparing nonpharmacological methods to relieve pain among newborns, it was suggested that swinging crying babies is effective in decreasing their crying duration. Mathai, Natrajan, and Rajalakshmi () indicated that swinging and using pacifiers were more effective nonpharmacological methods than breastfeeding, providing distilled water or sucrose, or massaging.…”
