Inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 on surfaces and in solution with Virusend (TX-10), a novel disinfectant

Abstract: Until an effective vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 is available on a widespread scale, the control of the COVID-19 pandemic is reliant upon effective pandemic control measures. The ability of SARS-CoV-2 to remain viable on surfaces and in aerosols, means indirect contact transmission can occur and so there is an opportunity to reduce transmission using effective disinfectants in public and communal spaces. Virusend (TX-10), a novel disinfectant, has been developed as a highly effective disinfectant against a range … Show more

“…Surface disinfectants based on citric acid, hydrochloride acid or lactic acid were also shown to efficiently reduce viral titres of coronaviruses (including SARS-CoV-2) [ 12 ]. Virusend (TX-10), a detergent-based disinfectant, was able to reduce by at least 4.0log10 PFU/mL of infectious SARS-CoV-2 with high titre inoculum and a reduction of at least 2.3log10 PFU/mL with low titre inoculum on both hard surfaces, such as stainless steel, and in solution [ 31 ].…”

“…Virusend (TX-10) application was found to inactivate SARS-CoV-2 in an in vitro study based on surface and solution inactivation assays. This novel disinfectant rapidly decreased the SARS-CoV-2 viral titer by 4log 10 PFU/mL within a contact period of 1 min (Anderson et al 2020).…”

“…All experiments were carried out in triplicates. SARS-CoV-2 titre was calculated using standard plaque assays as previously described [33]. Briefly, samples were serially diluted in DMEM containing 2 % FBS and incubated with Vero cells for 1 h. After incubation, an overlay with DMEM 2 % FBS, 0.1 % gentamycin and 0.4 % agarose was applied to the cells.…”
