In vivo ocular biomechanical compliance in thyroid eye disease

Abstract: The in vivo ocular biomechanics as measured by the CST reflects a reduced orbital compliance. This method of ocular biomechanical assessment may aid in the categorisation of TED severity and assist in monitoring and/or diagnosing TED.

“…Thus, hypothesizing the relationship between the ORA-measured CH value and the progression of glaucomatous VF damage relies on the WEM, because the accuracy of the measurement of CH value depends on WEM, the main purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of these WEM parameters on the relationship between CH and glaucomatous VF progression. Further, since mechanical conditions in orbit is known to affect WEM 9 , we also investigated the effect of topical usage of PGA prescribed for glaucoma patients on WEM along with other parameters because PGA induces histological and mechanical changes in not only orbital tissue but also eyelids 10 12 , cornea and sclera 13 15 .…”

“…Multiple studies show clinically relevant applications for the Corvis-ST. [1][2][3][4]11 Ectatic corneas have been primarily investigated, and associated with higher DAs and lower A1 stiffness parameters than normal corneas. 11,27 A corneal biomechanical index (CBI) for the diagnosis of corneal ectatic disease with the Corvis ST has also been created, which incorporates data from both the DA ratios and the A1 stiffness parameter along with the A1 velocity, the SD of DA at HC and Ambrósio's relational thickness to the horizontal profile.…”
