In vivo Efficacy of Biophytum petersianum on Haemonchus contortus in Goats

Abstract: H aemonchosis is one of the major parasitic diseases in goats in Indonesia. The biggest economic losses due to haemonchosis occur in subtropical and tropical regions which are mainly due to mortality, decreased production, stunted growth and low body weight (Mengist et al., 2014). In fact, West Papua could be a potential development area for goat livestock. Based on data from the Department of Animal Husbandry of West Papua Province (2016), the research Article Abstract | Haemonchosis is a common and severe di… Show more

“…González-Cortazar et al [36] stated that the aqueous extract of L. acapulcensis leaves reduced the EPG value of gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep. Sambodo et al [14] also stated that the aqueous extract of Biophytum petersianum decreased the EPG value of H. contortus in goats. The decrease in the EPG value is believed to be caused by secondary compounds in I. tinctoria.…”

“…A number of I. tinctoria L. leaves were cleaned, dried in a drying room, and stored until they were used for the extraction process. Each of the dry I. tinctoria leaves (10,12,14,16,18,20, and 22 g) was placed in 100 mL of distilled water and then incubated at 90°C for 15 min. The solution was filtered using filter paper, and the filtrate (100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200, and 220 mg/mL) was stored in the refrigerator until SEM and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) were conducted [10].…”

“…Min et al (2005) have proven that increased protein consumption will decrease parasite infections by increasing host immunity. Sambodo et al (2020) also report that condensed tannin concentrations over 55 g per kg dry feed ingredients will decrease feed intake, decrease digestibility, and suppress average daily weight gain of goats.…”
