“…The highest D2-dopamine receptor densities have been found in the caudate nucleus and putamen, as demonstrated by in vitro homogenate studies (Seeman, 1980;Hall et al, 1988 and in vitro autoradiography (Kessler et al, 1993;Hall et al, 19941, and confirmed in vivo using positron emission tomography (PET) (Farde et al, 1986). The density is lower in the nucleus accumbens (Berendse and Richfield, 1993;Kessler et al, 19931, and there are only minute populations of Dz-dopamine receptors in extrastriatal regions such as the neocortex, entorhinal cortex, and hippocampus (Bischoff et al, 1980;Lidow et al, 1989;Hall et al, 1991;Goldman-Rakic et al, 1992;Kessler et al, 1993).
