In vitro multiplication of Eucalyptus hybrid via temporary immersion bioreactor: culture media and cytokinin effects

Abstract: This study aimed to assess the influence of culture medium and cytokinin type on in vitro multiplication of an Eucalyptus grandis x E. urophylla hybrid clone via temporary immersion bioreactor (TIB ®). JADS, modified MS at a (NO 3ˉ) :(NH 4 +) ratio, and WPM were used as liquid media; and BAP, KIN, and TDZ were the cytokinins used in the study. According to the results, explants under the influence of modified MS presented better results for all traits. BAP was the most suitable plant growth regulator for axill… Show more

“…Nevertheless, a standard solid medium multiplication protocol cannot simply be copy/pasted to a liquid medium system. Problems to be solved are small shoots, hyperhydricity, excessive leaf drop and break out of endogenous bacterial contamination (Máximo et al, 2018).…”

“…Both bioreactor systems offer increased culture multiplication and high biomass accumulation due to high nutrient availability. Compared to traditional cultivation in a liquid medium, bioreactors offer reduced hyperhydricity and physiological stress [ 5 ], as well as lower medium costs (i.e., elimination of gelling agent) and shorter plant propagation time. They enable easier handling and reduce labor coast [ 6 , 7 , 8 ].…”
