In Vitro Generated Equine Hepatic-Like Progenitor Cells as a Novel Potent Cell Pool for Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) Treatment

Abstract: Equine metabolic syndrome (EMS) is recognized as one of the leading cause of health threatening in veterinary medicine worldwide. Recently, PTP1B inhibition has been proposed as an interesting strategy for liver insulin resistance reversion in both equines and humans, however as being a multifactorial disease, proper management of EMS horses further necessities additional interventional approaches aiming at repairing and restoring liver functions. In this study, we hypothesized that in vitro induction of Eq_AS… Show more

“…Equine hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs) were generated using a two-step differentiation process of equine adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs), as previously described [7,39]. Briefly, the ASCs were subjected to a 10-day differentiation process.…”

“…Equine hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs) have been generated using a two-step differentiation of equine adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) as previously described [7,43]. Briefly, the ASCs cells were subjected to a 10-days differentiation process; the cells were incubated during 2 days in DMEM-Low Glucose (LG) culture medium supplemented with 20 ng / ml of Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and 10 ng / ml of basic Fibroblast Growth Factor (bFGF) (conditioning step).…”
