In Vitro antimicrobial activity of medicinal plant Rumex Nervosus against selected oral pathogens

Abstract: Background: Rumex nervosus is a plant found and used in Saudi Arabia as traditional herbal medicine. Various types of plant extracts with inherent synergistic properties are being used against oral diseases. Thus, in the present study, the anti-microbial activity of Rumex nervosus extracts was studied against six common oral pathogenic bacterial strains and a pathogenic fungus. Materials and Method: Plants of R. ne… Show more

“…The activity of ColI-HA-CS-GS/GMs, ColI-HA-CS-GS and ColI-HA-CS scaffolds against E. coli and S. aureus in vitro was determined by inhibition zone method. 35 The scaffolds were added to the Luria Broth (LB) solid medium containing 200 μL S. aureus and E. coli (10 5 cfu/mL, determined at 600 nm using the UV-visible spectrophotometer) for 16 h at 30°C. 36 The relative antibacterial effect was measured the zone of inhibition (ZOI) with a digital caliper.…”

“…Some studies on the use of medicinal plants containing gallic acid and other bioactive derivatives in poultry feed show promising results in promoting growth performance, increasing feed efficiency, and improving carcass characteristics and meat quality ( Biswas et al, 2023 ; Vlaicu et al, 2023 ), whereas studies with Rumex nervosus are very limited. Rumex nervosus , as a traditional medicinal shrub belonging to the Polygonaceae family and distributed in Arab and African countries, contains gallic acid and has numerous biological activities ( Al-Sunafi, 2016 ; Aati et al, 2019 ; Gemechu et al, 2021 ; Al-Farhan et al, 2022 ; Al-Garadi et al, 2022 ; Boukhary et al, 2023 ). Regardless of extracts or powders, Rumex nervosus leaf powder ( RNLP ) have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory ( Al-Quraishy et al, 2020 ; Qasem et al, 2020 ), anticoccidial ( Qasem et al, 2020 ; Qaid et al, 2021b ), and antimicrobial properties ( Al-Garadi et al, 2022 ), as well as improves the productive performance of broilers ( Al-Quraishy et al, 2020 ; Azzam et al, 2020 ).…”
