"In vitro" antifungal activity of ozonized sunflower oil on yeasts from onychomycosis

Abstract: The "in vitro" antifungal activity of ozonized sunflower oil (Bioperoxoil®) was tested on 101 samples of yeasts originating from onychomycosis using the disk diffusion method. The oil was efficacious against several clinical fungal strains: Candida parapsilosis, Candida albicans, Trichosporon asahii, Candida tropicalis and Candida guilliermondii.

“…34,38 So far, the demonstrated antimicrobial activity of ozonized oils has been exploited in several fields of application. 29,[39][40][41][42][43] In this study, we demonstrated the antifungal activity of the ozonized sunflower oil eye drops in liposome against four species of Candida. The antimicrobial activity was demonstrated at concentrations several times lower than those of the undiluted product retrieved in ocular surface after the topical of Ozodrop.…”

“…Previous studies showed that oleozon is non‐toxic and has been used for skin disease and bacterial infections (Almeida, Beatriz, Micheletti, & Arruda, ; Guerrer et al., ). During this experiment, no phytotoxic effects were observed on cucumber leaves after oleozon application.…”

“…Ozonized sunflower oil has demonstrated in vitro antifungal activity against Candida yeasts and has been shown to be as effective as topical ketoconazole in the treatment of tinea pedis [36][37][38]. In a simple-blinded, randomized, controlled trial of 400 participants with culture-confirmed onychomycosis, investigators compared topical ozonized sunflower oil (OLEOZON ® ) twice daily for three months to ketoconazole cream 2% twice daily for 3 months [12].…”
