In vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of pegmatite

Abstract: Pegmatite is a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock rich in rare elements such as uranium, tungsten, and tantalum with Ca, K, Mg, Fe, Se, Ge, and Ho. We tested in vitro and in vivo assays for the antiinflammatory activity of pegmatites. We firstly evaluated the suppressive effects of pegmatite on macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 cells stimulated with proinflammatory stimuli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to determine nitric oxide (NO) production and TNF-α and IL-6 release. The IC 50 values of pegmatite exceeded 5,000… Show more

“…The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit early steps in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX). The NSAIDs are important drugs used to reduce untoward consequences of inflammation [10]. The chronic use of NSAIDs is connected with cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and renal toxicities [1,11,12,13,14].…”

“…Similarly, the use of corticosteroids leads to hypertension, hyperglycemia, osteoporosis, and growth arrest [15]. Toxicity and recurrence of symptoms on discontinuation is a major problem related to currently available synthetic drugs [10]. The development of safer anti-inflammatory agents remains to be a subject of great interest [16].…”

“…The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit early steps in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX). The NSAIDs are essential drugs used to reduce untoward consequences of inflammation [9,[12][13][14]. The current emerging interest is to conduct further study to provide evidence for Aspirin as the novel therapeutic drug for combating severe acute inflammation and thrombosis associated with the cytokine storm in COVID-19 patients.…”

“…Undesired out-comes and recurrence of symptoms characterized some of these synthetic drugs. Bioprospecting better anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic and analgesic agents remains a subject of great interest [2], which solution may lie in plants [5]. Plants have a reputation as remedies in ethnomedicine for the management of inflammatory disorders and pain [6].…”
