Abstract

This April 2023 issue of the Journal of Mixed Methods Research (JMMR) includes an editorial for a new virtual special issue, one research note, four articles, and a special thanks to reviewers during the 2022 publication year.In the editorial, Archibald (2023) introduces the sixth virtual special issue of JMMR, focused on collaboration in mixed methods research. Virtual special issues are online-only collections of previously published JMMR articles. These collections are prepared by chief or associate editors, identifying important contributions relative to a chosen theme . The first virtual special issues focused on paradigms (Molina-Azorin & Fetters, 2020), integration (Guetterman et al., 2020), quality (Fàbregues et al., 2021), mixed methods research in education (Shannon-Baker, 2022), and designs (Poth et al., 2022). In this sixth virtual special issue, Archibald (2023), with affiliation in nursing, has selected 18 articles about the use of collaborative practices in mixed methods research. These articles are grouped in four topics: (1) discrete participatory methods, (2) within and between collaborative team dynamics, (3) indigenous communities and marginalized groups, and (4) community-based participatory research. Benefits and challenges of collaborative mixed methods research are emphasized, indicating opportunities for future collaborative approaches in mixed methods research.
