“…Compared to the lignin, the BSB remains the typical peaks at 1650, 1510, 1460, 1120 and 1040 cm -1 , confirming the ''core'' of lignin structure did not change during the synthetic process (Li et al 2015a, b). Specifically, the wide bands at 1650 cm -1 are associated with C=O stretching (Huang et al 2020), and the bands at 1510 and 1460 cm -1 are attributed to the aromatic skeletal C=C stretching, and the bands at 1120 and 1040 cm -1 are assigned to C-O stretching of ethers (Qin et al 2017). The new broad band at 1410 cm -1 in BSB is a characteristic signal of C-N (Ge et al 2015), indicating the amine/amino has been successfully introduced into the lignin matrix.…”

“…Lignin contains the functional groups such as phenolic hydroxyl group, alcoholic hydroxyl group, carboxyl group and methoxy group, which can be used to adsorb heavy metals (Ge and Li 2018). The structural characteristics of lignin depend on a number of factors including the botanical origin, the environmental conditions of growth and the conditions of extraction from the in situ lignin network (Huang et al 2020). Sugarcane bagasse (SCB) is an abundant natural solid lignocellulosic residue after extraction of juice from sugarcane stalks which usually contains * 20% of lignin.…”

“…In recent times, on account of the significant attributes, such as a simple method, low-cost, environ-friendly nature, higher competence and mild micro-spheres synthesis method, geopolymers are successfully developed and commonly used as adsorbents, inorganic membranes, catalysts and for the immobilization of dangerous metal ions. Adsorption is regarded as the most efficient, uncomplicated and widespread technique for water decontamination [ 116 , 117 , 118 , 119 , 120 ]. Undeniably, activated carbon is the standard adsorbent material and is well-known as the most utilized adsorbent for water and wastewater treatment with an excellent demonstration of higher adsorption competencies for the removal of heavy metal cations, but its use gets hindered due to its comparatively high cost [ 121 ].…”
