In Search for the Ideal Spouse

Abstract

This paper discusses the material related to marriage in two adab anthologies, namely the ®Uyân al-akhb¨r of Ibn Qutayba and al-®Iqd al-farÂd of Ibn ®Abd Rabbih. The rst part discusses the particular caveats and concerns when dealing with such compilations. The second part details the ndings relating to marriage and the attributes of the Òideal spouse.Ó Cet article examine les donn es relatives au mariage contenues dans deux anthologies dÕadab du monde musulman m di val: le ®Uyân al-akhb¨r dÕIbn Qutayba et le al-®Iqd al-farÂd dÕIbn ®Abd Rabbih.
