In-plane oriented highly ordered lamellar structure formation of poly(N-dodecylacrylamide) induced by humid annealing

Abstract: Highly oriented and ordered lamellar polymer film was prepared by simply annealing the poly(N-dodecylacrylamide) film under humid conditions.

“…In addition, the XRD pattern images, as shown in Figure 2f, also indicate that, after incubation at the neutral condition for 24 h, the spot-like crystalline diffractions could be discovered within the TPM mixed micelles. The diffraction pattern of the TPM mixed micelles is represented in the ordered crystalline structure, aligning with the out-of-plane direction [24]. The crystalline spots disappeared in the XRD pattern image of the acid-treated TPM micelles in Figure 2g, demonstrating that the crystalline nanodomains in TPM mixed micelles would be disordered at pH 4.0, in harmony with the results of the XRD pattern in Figure 2c.…”

“…Therefore, it is not surprising to discover the crystalline formations by XRD analysis within a mixed micellar system, in Figure 2c,f [35]. In our case, the crystalline structure would align in a lamellar manner and grow out-of-plane [24]. WARD results show that 2 θ = 2 and 6, showing that the distances between the α-helices of the PBLG and the pitch length of α-helices were 4.415 and 1.472 nm, respectively.…”

“…The XRD pattern in Fig. 2a reveals 3 diffractions with a spacing ratio of 1:2:3, corresponding to the (100), (200), and (300) Miller Indices of a 2D lamellar mesostructure 65 , 66 . The distance between the bilayers is estimated with the Bragg equation to be 3.43 nm, which is 0.2 nm smaller than twice the extending length of the oleate molecule (Supplementary Fig.…”
