“…As noted previously, the current ICD coding system does not adequately identify whether or not the victim of a firearm assault was the intended target versus a bystander or mistaken target [30] . Finally, our study did not include previously used indicators of injury severity, such as injury severity scores, ICU length of stay, mechanical ventilation requirement or packed red blood cell transfusions received [34] .
