“…Its extrapolation (dot-dashed curve) allowed us to evaluate the realistic upper limit of about 1 mb for the mean equivalent total cross section. This represents a negligible systematic increase of the 8 Li(α, n) 11 B cross section value, expected in the range 100 − 600 mb at E cm = 1.05 MeV [16,17,18,19,20,21,22].…”

This represents a negligible systematic increase of the 8 Li(α, n) 11 B cross section value, expected in the range 100-600 mb at E cm = 1.05 MeV [16][17][18][19][20][21][22]. The measurement without 4 He was then performed to exclude the existence of additional, a priori unexpected, strong correlated background contributions attributable to the beam transit nearby and/or inside the gas target cell.…”

“…Indeed, the TRIUMF accelerator successfully produced 8 He by using 60 μA of primary proton beam accelerated by a cyclotron interacting with a SiC target, with an intensity of ∼10 4 pps (Holl et al 2021). The LNS accelerator, in Catania, produced 8 Li using the reaction 7 Li( 2 H, p) 8 Li (Agodi et al 2006). This reaction, which has a high cross-section (Schilling et al 1976), can be used either with a 2 H beam, or with a 7 Li beam (inverse kinematics).…”
