What if what is missing is not information and understanding of all that is wrong, but rather a sense that it is worth trying to do something about it? (Peters, 2005: 45) The problem I'm going out on a limb, here, but I think there is a void in Sexualities. Sexuality scholarship is largely about the problems that sexual behaviors, attitudes, discourses, politics, and identities cause for individuals and society. The articles and special issues in Sexualities approach this scholarship with passion and innovation. Yet, although sexuality scholars, including many who write in Sexualities, participate in various types of transformational and advocacy activities to remedy society's problems with sexualities, little is written about activism and advocacy how-to, why and what-for in the journal. Scholars have ceded this terrain to editorials, newsletters, blogs, alternative media or social media and may even themselves write such material, but is there still a need for such splitting? Maybe it's time to examine the chasm between activists and the academics who research and write about social issues and movements. Using U.S. third wave feminism as the cultural backdrop, this study examines emerging adults' participation in heterosexual ''friends with benefts'' (FWB) relationships. We investigate both the role of gender and feminism in FWB relationships at a United States college, and ask whether identifcation with feminist ideology impacts students' motivations and assessments of their relationships. Through the use of an anonymous survey, our research explores whether and how young women and men engage in FWB relationships, the degree to which they fnd such relationships fulflling, and the presence of social stigma or acceptance related to this sexual behavior. While we fnd some gender differences in motives for and satisfaction with FWB relationships, we also suggest that the association between sexual agency and participation in a friends with benefts relationship is complicated and requires further research and exploration.

Public discourse is replete with talk about the fragility of young women's self-esteem, linking poor self-concept to a range of social problems associated with girlhood. We know little about the impact of these ideas on young women. In this article, we examine interviews with 66 girls, aged 14-22, to understand how they talk about the link between self-esteem and sexual expression in everyday life. We find that girls' talk about selfesteem uses classed meanings that unintentionally reinforce and extend the role of sexuality in girls' status hierarchies, benefitting those with more class resources, while policing all girls' abilities to claim sexual agency.
