This chapter explored how OpenStreetMap (OSM) enhances social inclusion and community participation in mapping. By enabling anyone to contribute, OSM leverages local knowledge for more accurate and detailed maps, addressing the limitations of traditional mapping. Community involvement is fostered through mapping parties, micro-tasking initiatives, and social media integration, promoting ownership and engagement. OSM empowers marginalized groups by documenting their communities, countering misrepresentation, and bridging the digital divide with training and resources. Despite challenges like digital literacy and data quality, solutions such as multilingual resources, robust validation, and offline tools enhance inclusivity. Ultimately, OSM supports sustainable development, disaster preparedness, and equitable resource allocation by integrating diverse perspectives and fostering community-driven mapping efforts.
