The application of information technology to self-assessment has received a lot of attention in recent years. Several previous studies have discovered a positive relationship between online self-assessment and academic performance. This study aimed to confirm the relationship between online self-assessment and learning outcomes and self-assessment skills among grade 11 students in Vietnam. With a total of 160 students, this research had been designed as quasi-experimental. The two groups did the self-assessment in different ways over the six weeks of impact implementation. To perform an online self-assessment, the intervention group employed interactive online exercises that delivered instant feedback on Liveworksheets. Throughout this period, the control group engaged in traditional self-assessment. The study found that the intervention group’s final test scores (7.7) were higher than the control group’s (6.3), and their self-assessment skills were more developed at the end of the study. The study confirms the positive relationship between online self-assessment and learning outcomes and self-assessment skills among grade 11 students in Vietnam. The findings suggest that online interactive exercises with immediate feedback can improve learning outcomes and that regular online self-assessment can enhance students’ self-assessment skills. Conceptually, this study contributes to the growing body of research on the application of information technology in education and gives insight into the potential of online self-assessment as a promising tool to promote student learning and development. The results of this study can serve as early data to investigate the effectiveness of online self-assessment in diverse educational settings.

Background QR codes have played an integral role during the pandemic in many sectors, but their use has been limited in the health care sector, especially by patients. Although some authors have stated that developing specific content for women on how to cope with health problems could be an effective way to prevent problems, especially during pandemics, there is little research regarding the use of QR codes to promote health during a pandemic, and even fewer studies are focused on women. Moreover, although the importance of assessing these interventions from the users’ perspective has been stated, research carried out from this point of view is still scarce. Objective This study aimed to assess the usefulness of using QR codes with information to promote women’s health in the context of a pandemic. We also sought to design and validate a questionnaire to assess this. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among women in the gynecology waiting rooms of a reference hospital. Exploratory factorial analysis with the split-half method and Cronbach α values was performed for questionnaire validation. Univariant and bivariant analyses were performed to analyze the data obtained. Results In total, 186 women took part in the study. Exploratory factor analysis identified 2 domains: usability and applicability in medical practice. The Cronbach α value was .81. Overall, 83.7% of the answers to the first domain and 56.4% of those to the second were favorable. Women with university education or those who had used QR codes before scored better in the usability domain, while no differences were observed in the applicability scores. Conclusions Using QR codes in the gynecology clinics’ waiting rooms can help promote women’s health during a pandemic, regardless of their education level or whether they have used QR codes before. The questionnaire developed herein is a helpful tool to assess this. These findings are important for clinical practice. This research can be performed in other ambits, specialties, or countries.

In the field of healthcare delivery, shared decision making (SDM) refers to a collaborative process, wherein both patients and the healthcare professionals mutually work to make informed and consensus decisions with reference to the kind of medical care that will be administered to patients. The purpose of the current review is to explore SDM in health care, ascertain the role of medical education, and identify the ways to train and assess undergraduate medical students in competencies pertaining to SDM. An extensive search of all materials related to the topic was carried out on the PubMed and Google Scholar search engines and a total of 29 articles were selected based on their suitability with the current review objectives and analyzed. Keywords used in the search include learning resources in the title alone only (viz. shared decision making [ti] AND patient [ti]; shared decision making [ti] AND medical education [ti]; shared decision making [ti] AND assessment [ti]; shared decision making [ti] AND self-assessment [ti]; shared decision making [ti]; shared decision making [ti]). In the domain of medical education, the promotion of SDM essentially will require a multipronged approach to enable its integration into the medical curriculum. However, we must remember that mere teaching–learning methods would not improve it unless they are supplemented with assessment methods, otherwise, we will fail to deliver sustained results. In conclusion, SDM in medical education and healthcare industry represents a transformative shift from the traditional paradigm to a patient-centered approach that empowers both patients and healthcare providers, including budding medical students. The need of the hour is to advocate and encourage structured integration of SDM in the medical curriculum and support the same with periodic assessments.
