Improving the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells with acetate

Abstract: In an all-solid-state perovskite solar cell, methylammonium lead halide film is in charge of generating photo-excited electrons, thus its quality can directly influence the final photovoltaic performance of the solar cell. This paper accentuates a very simple chemical approach to improving the quality of a perovskite film with a suitable amount of acetic acid. With introduction of acetate ions, a homogeneous, continual and hole-free perovskite film comprised of high-crystallinity grains is obtained. UV-visible… Show more

“…All of these methods lead to a perovskite structure as an output, but with differences in morphology, composition and defect structures. Recently, multiple groups have suggested using lead acetate (Pb(CH 3 COO) 2 , Pb(OAc) 2 ) as the primary lead source in solution processed MAPbI 3 based solar cells ,. This pathway shows an increase in solar cell performance, attributed to accelerated crystal growth and enhanced film smoothness and surface coverage.…”

“…To improve the quality of the perovskite films, several solutions have been proposed. Indeed, a simple chemical approach was developed to improve the quality of perovskite films by adding an appropriate amount of acetic acid [34]. The introduction of acetate ions allows to obtain a homogeneous and continuous perovskite film, without pinholes and composed of grains with a high degree of crystallinity.…”

“…This would result in a wide range of photovoltaic performances of the devices employing these perovskite films. Further improvements in the device performance can also be achieved by enhancing the formation of an active layer in the perovskites, by which better surface coverage, higher crystallinity, larger domains/grain sizes, and lower defect states below the band gap are obtained. For examples, Shi et al employed the anti‐solvent vapor‐assisted crystallization (AVC) method to grow relatively large single crystals of the perovskite with low trap density, whose performances when used in solar cells resemble those seen in up‐to‐date Si based solar cells.…”
