Improving the Operational Efficiency of Parcel Delivery Network with a Bi-Level Decision Making Model

Abstract: This article proposes a mathematical model for integrating terminal operation strategies with shipment scheduling. We are motivated by findings from the literature on the integrated design of logistic systems. The objective of this research is to efficiently utilize the existing hub terminals and transport network by considering the minimization of costs related to terminal congestion, transport, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Cooperative behaviors of terminal managers and fleet assignment managers are mo… Show more

“…The issue addressed is based on the need to optimize the already existing delivery routes of the presented company at the branch in the city of České Budějovice, Czech Republic. This branch distributes gastronomic equipment throughout the year on optimized routes with the full utilization capacity of service vehicles [26]. However, the problem arises during the main season, when the seasonal demand of the operators of camps and restaurant facilities increases for the regular served customers, mainly due to the increased tourist traffic.…”

“…The actual calculation results show that this integrated model is more efficient than existing models. Another trial research, such as literature [25,26], also investigated the integrated model for the bi-objective capacitated P-median problem with multilevel capacities. Their research contributed to a good way to make use of advantages from these two kinds of models, but did not meet exactly four requirements of the URT maintenance network we study.…”
