Improving supply chain resilience from the perspective of information processing theory

Abstract: PurposeSupply chain resilience (SCR) has attracted much attention in the context of the high uncertainty caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), local regional conflicts and natural disasters. Based on information processing theory (IPT), this study investigates the role of supply chain information processing capability in enhancing SCR through supply chain governance (SCG), under different conditions of environmental uncertainty.Design/methodology/approachThe hypothetical model is tested by using h… Show more

“…Furthermore, despite the absence of a unique definition, scholars agree that a DT strategy involves using advanced technologies to build digital business models to yield more efficient operations and value creation (Fang et al. , 2023; Lu et al. , 2023a, b; Verhoef et al.…”

“…For example, Srinivasan and Swink (2015) draw upon OIPT to identify the comprehensiveness of an organization's supply chain planning capabilities as an important mediator in the relationship between its supply chain integration activities and its operational performance. Lu et al (2023) leverage insights from OIPT to examine the effect of supply chain information acquisition and analysis as key drivers of supply chain resilience and establish the mediating role of supply chain governance in this relationship. Srinivasan and Swink (2018) also use OIPT to study demand visibility and supply visibility as foundational resources for analytics capability.…”

“…SC resilience is needed in considering significant uncertainty related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), local and regional conflicts and natural disasters. Therefore, Lu, Jiang [50] revealed that the importance of SC information processing capability is strengthening SC resilience through supply chain governance. Similarly, Bag, Gupta [51] highlights that due to COVID-19, healthcare organizations need to enhance their information processing capabilities and develop greater SC responsiveness.…”
